Work in the heart of the Victorian breeding region
Equine Clinic is a dedicated Equine Practice with three/four full time vets and great support staff. Our clinic focus is to provide high quality, compassionate veterinary care to our clientele. Our clinic culture reflects continuous improvement and happy staff and clients. Many of our clients have become life-long friends. We have an interesting and varied caseload, with an emphasis on reproduction. We are in a beautiful part of regional Central Victoria, with a large horse population, just over an hour to Melbourne CBD and less than 2 hours to the snow.
Our Clinic provides a base for our ambulatory services, as well as a range of facilities for onsite consultations, hospitalisation, dentistry and assisted reproduction. We have great relationships with a visiting specialist surgeon, dentist and ophthalmologist plus local referral hospitals. We support our team with all the equipment required to provide an excellent service and are keen to kindle your special interests.
The position is for a full or part time equine veterinarian. A special interest in dentistry would be highly regarded but is not essential. 1-2 years of equine practice experience is preferred but not essential.
Position Description:
- Provide veterinary care for a range of horses from thoroughbreds and performance horses, to pleasure horses and much-loved elderly companions.
- Build and maintain excellent client relationships, providing high quality advice within the scope of your knowledge and experience.
- Work efficiently and independently and have great communication skills with stud staff, managers and peers.
- Perform equine consultations covering all aspects of routine and emergency equine cases in a busy first opinion equine clinic. This includes but not limited to consultations, field anesthesia and surgery, radiography, studwork and reproductive services. Clinical notes must be kept in a timely manner.
- Depending on your level of experience you will be encouraged to take on more challenging cases or be supported to learn and assist with more complicated procedures.
- Approach cases based on logical progression with empathy towards the clients’ expectations as required. Communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to clients and follow up cases.
- Have a good understanding of and maintain requirements for infection control, animal health and legislative requirements.
- Be available to provide afterhours emergency veterinary care on an equally shared 1 in 3 (or hopefully 4) roster. Between September to November, we work a 1 in 2 roster as first and second on call.
We are a growing practice, working really hard to achieve a good work-life balance. The full-time position includes a four day working week January to August inclusive, five busy working days are required during the breeding season. We can offer 20 days annual leave between January and August plus your birthday off. To make the afterhours work a little more bearable, we’ll pay you 100% of the professional fees that you charge out whilst on call plus additional remuneration for each weekend that you work. You’ll also get a day off in the week after your weekend on call. We are keen to encourage you to develop your career with paid study leave (5 days a year) and continuous access to paper search engines and online continuing education discussions. We also pay your AVA and EVA memberships. Your will receive a 4WD full-equipped work vehicle and work phone. Partnership prospects would be available for the right candidate.
The full-time salary will be in the region of $100,000 - $160,000 annual salary plus superannuation, including the after-hours payments.
The part time position available will be a new position for the clinic but we envisage flexible hours to suit you.
