Description

Yulong Stud’s veterinary department is seeking an individual with clinical or commercial laboratory experience to join our growing team near Nagambie, Victoria.

Yulong’s veterinary facilities include a full lab comprised of hematology, chemistry and blood gas machines (IDEXX) along with the ability to do cultures and sensitivities, urinalysis and faecal egg counts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for running and operating the laboratory which would
include preparing and processing veterinary samples for analysis and testing. Working closely
alongside our veterinarians, the candidate would be instrumental in the timely diagnosis and
treatment of Yulong’s stock. You will be joining a fun team with a passion for providing a high-level care to our equine patients.

To be successful you will have the following:
– Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences/Microbiology or equivalent.
– Previous experience in veterinary laboratory setting with equine samples (essential).
– Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a high level of attention to detail.
– Ability to establish and maintain quality control procedures.
– Advanced communication skills and the ability to communicate with stud staff at every level.
– Ability and willingness to teach our vet nurses about different laboratory procedures.
– Computer literate.
– Current driving licence.
Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
– Faecal sample preparation for parasitology evaluation.
– Process samples for bacterial identification through incubation (clitoral, uterine,
transtracheal washes, joint, faecal and exudate).
– Susceptibility testing.
– Process blood samples for hematology, biochemistry, blood gas analysis, serum amyloid A,
fibrinogen and IgG.
– Cytology for various samples (blood, transtracheal wash, abdominocentesis, exudate,
uterine, joint, ocular, and bronchoalveolar lavage).
– Preparing and processing veterinary samples for analysis and testing.
– Assist in stock control and recording of data for medical records.

This is an opportunity for someone passionate about equine health care to become closely
involved with patient care in an atypical lab setting.

The position is full time, however, part time would be considered. An attractive remuneration
package is on offer for the successful candidate.
