ABOUT THE ROLE

AHA is seeking an experienced manager to join the Emergency Preparedness, Animal Health and Biosecurity team in the role of Emergency Preparedness Manager, on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be an integral part of a dynamic and fun team, working under the direction of the Head of Program (AUSVETPLAN).

The position will primarily contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of Australia’s veterinary emergency plan (AUSVETPLAN) and the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement (EADRA). The position will also provide support to other animal health and biosecurity programs within the portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project management of the suite of AUSVETPLAN manuals with a holistic approach, keeping each manual in-step with the others and not allowing them to fall behind or lose currency.
  • Management of technical working groups, advisory groups, steering committees to ensure prioritised review and updating of key policy and procedure documents related to AUSVETPLAN and the EADRA.
  • Stakeholder engagement and network building.
  • Provision of technical advice to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Identification of potential risks and opportunities to AHA’s business or reputation and reporting these to senior management.
  • Driving a digital transformation of AUSVETPLAN to ensure all manuals are interlinked and referenced throughout for ease of use and access by all emergency responders.
  • Upskilling other AHA staff both within the Emergency Preparedness and Response portfolio as well as across other service streams.
  • Performing secretariat services, including preparation of meeting papers and logistics and records management.
  • Demonstrating AHA values in their daily approach to work and interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

Total remuneration for this position is in the range of $112,500-133,000 (including super) and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of experience.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in veterinary or animal science
  • Previous experience in similar role demonstrating relevant technical skills and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Australia’s biosecurity emergency preparedness and response arrangements
  • knowledge of Australia’s animal health and biosecurity systems
  • Well-developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships and networks within the company and with members and key stakeholders
  • Project management skills and experience including financial and budget management
  • Good analytical and report writing skills
  • Commitment to deliver excellent customer service
  • Experience in facilitating and chairing committees
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to show initiative, flexibility, prioritise competing work demands and meet deadlines
  • Fluency and expertise with contemporary office software applications, internet communication tools and database administration.

Desirable

  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in emergency animal disease response
  • Experience in the Australian agricultural, livestock health or biosecurity sector
  • Ability to communicate scientific information into plain English suitable for a non-technical audience
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in Microsoft Teams.
