Are you looking for a rewarding career? Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a part-time Emergency Boarding Coordinator to join our Head Office on the Gold Coast! If you’re passionate about making a direct impact on animal welfare, we’d love to talk to you.
How you’ll impact our mission

The primary purpose of this role is to manage AWLQ’s Emergency Boarding Program to ensure vulnerable members of the community and their pets are being supported in times of need with short-term boarding. This program is part of AWLQ’s commitment to offering valued community services to pet owners and their pets to improve pet welfare within the community and to reduce relinquishment of pets to shelters and pounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to requests from support workers, case workers, hospitals and the general public with any questions regarding the Emergency Boarding Program and requests for assistance
- Liaise with Animal Care Attendants for suitable on-site housing for incoming emergency boarding animals and oversee their care and management
- Source suitable foster carers for incoming emergency boarding animals · Assist foster carers with queries about their emergency boarding foster animals
- Coordinate veterinary clinic appointments/treatments at AWLQ Community Vet Clinics as required
- Collate resources/foster packs for emergency boarding animals while in foster
- Assist with collection/drop offs of emergency boarding animals when owner is not present/too unwell to drive themselves
- Update case notes on current open cases
- Increase AWLQ involvement in opportunities in the community to promote AWLQ support programs
- Establish and maintain effective external stakeholder relationships
- Develop and implement strategies to source, engage, manage, maintain and grow community partnerships and support
- Ensure the program is effectively managed within the available budget and resources and as per the program’s guidelines
- Develop a support team of volunteers to assist with transport of animals and any other duties where required
What we’re looking for
To be successful in this role, we are ideally seeking someone who can meet the following selection criteria:
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience in conflict resolution and problem solving
- Strong customer service skills and experience, particularly in assisting customers experiencing crisis situations (experience in social work would be highly regarded)
- Display empathy towards AWLQ customers
- Fantastic organisational and time management skills
- Intermediate skills in MS Office. Shelterbuddy experience would be advantageous.
- A current driver’s license.
- Current criminal history check, or the ability to obtain one.
