Dog Care and Welfare Assistants - 2 roles available (Part-time)

Guide Dogs Victoria currently has an exciting opportunity for two experienced Dog Care Attendants to join our team in the role of Dog Care and Welfare Assistant on a part-time basis. The role will be based within our Canine Facilities team, in either the Guide Dog Training Kennels or Guide Dog Nursery facility. The shift patterns are: 31 hours/per week and 22.3 hours/per week. You must also be available to work on a weekend.

 

In this role you will be responsible to: 

  • Provide and maintain the highest level of health care and temperamental management;
  • Ensure assigned canines are quiet and relaxed, regularly health checked, groomed, bathed, and exercised;
  • Promote a positive, calm canine facilities environment;
  • Ensure assigned areas and surrounds are maintained in a secure, clean, hygienic and tidy condition at all times, following appropriate procedures;
  • Implement correct canine handling techniques as outlined in Guide Dogs Victoria policies; 
  • Ensure required medications and equipment is available as necessary.  This includes notifying the manager of supplies that need to be ordered.

 

The successful candidate will have:  

  • Confidence and comfortable handling dogs;
  • Ability to work well within a team environment as well as working with minimal supervision;
  • Prepared to undertake in-house training in order to best fulfill role requirements;
  • Maturity in approach to work with a strong work ethic;
  • Prepared to ‘muck-in’ with some of the more fundamental tasks with canines;
  • Current driver’s license is advantageous as transport of canines may be required;
  • A strong client and customer focus and a commitment to person centred service practices;
  • A commitment to live the values and behaviours of Guide Dogs Victoria; and
  • A strong alignment with the vision of Guide Dogs Victoria in delivering independence to people who are blind or have low vision.

 

Please note: To be considered for this position you must be available to work one of the following shift pattern, with potential additional shifts on offer:

Role 1 (31 hours/per week)

  • Mondays: Not Required
  • Tuesdays: 3.45 pm to 8 pm,
  • Wednesdays: 3.45 pm to 8 pm,
  • Thursdays: 12 pm to 8 pm, (30 mins unpaid lunch break)
  • Fridays: 8 am to 4 pm, (30 mins unpaid lunch break)
  • Saturdays: 8 am to 4 pm, (30 mins unpaid lunch break)
  • Sundays: Not Required

Role 2 (22.3 hours/per week)

  • Mondays: Not Required
  • Tuesdays: Not Required
  • Wednesdays: 3.45 pm to 8 pm,
  • Thursdays:12 pm to 8 pm, (30 mins unpaid lunch break)
  • Fridays: 8 am to 4 pm, (30 mins unpaid lunch break)
  • Saturdays: Not Required
  • Sundays: 8 am to 12.15 pm.

Mandatory Safety Screening Checks

This role also requires the successful candidate to complete and receive a clear result for a National Police Check, International Police Check (where required) and Working with Children Check.
