Local Land Services (LLS) is an Executive Agency related to the cluster. It provides quality, customer-focused services to landholders and the community across New South Wales. This regionally based organisation brings together a wide range of service and advisory functions including agriculture, biosecurity, natural resource management, land management, biodiversity, emergency services, private native forestry and the Soil Conservation Service.
About the Role
The District Veterinarian Functional Lead in South East LLS (SELLS) will contribute to the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare service delivery functions.
This will include prevention, preparedness, detection and response activities to animal diseases and animal welfare in line with state and national objectives to contribute to safeguarding the NSW economy, environment and community and meet national and state standards and outcomes.
About the Role
- Ensure the objectives of the NSW Biosecurity Strategy 2013-2021 are met at a regional level through effective delivery of Animal Biosecurity and Welfare and Emergency Response strategic, business and functional plans.
- Functional lead of SELLS Animal Biosecurity and Welfare function to ensure effective and efficient implementation of strategies and plans.
- Lead delivery of priority field animal biosecurity and animal welfare activities
- Lead delivery of animal biosecurity surveillance activities to ensure rapid identification of new and emerging biosecurity threats
- Manage resourcing of disease investigations in all species
- Lead compliance and enforcement programs to ensure legislated biosecurity obligations including pest and disease management and livestock traceability
This role will be leading partnerships with external organisations and varied stakeholders and clients in an operating environment that is constantly changing and maintaining alignment between SELLS activity and the Government’s broader policies affecting NSW primary industries given that the Government’s agenda may conflict with industry priorities.
This role will report to the General Manager.
About You
This is a great position for an experienced vet who would be interested in production animals, although large animal experience is desirable
Key knowledge and experience
- Experience in large animal welfare, husbandry and medicine with knowledge of epidemiology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the impact of biosecurity threats on communities, agriculture and natural environment including current approaches to field biosecurity service delivery and animal welfare.
- Ability to collect information from people and report on achievements against planned activities that contribute to state-wide outcomes.
Essential requirements
- Degree in Veterinary Science registrable in NSW and registration with the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board.
- Current NSW Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel.
The capacity to hold an NSW firearms license or equivalent would be ideal.
