The University of Adelaide is looking for a passionate, business-minded veterinary leader to take charge of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in partnership with the School of Animal & Veterinary Science.
Comprising three departments – companion animal, equine/large animal and diagnostic lab – the VTH provides a broad range of clinical services to the local community. Our equine/large animal practice has recently followed the companion animal facility in attaining VSBSA hospital accreditation. As a result, we are the only entity in South Australia to be accredited across the full range of species.
The VTH is rebounding from the disruptive effects of COVID and is now in need of a Hospital Director to lead us through the next stage of our re-development as a thriving, multi-disciplinary hospital. Our facilities are world-class a, and we have a strong core of talented and passionate people prepared to drive growth in each area.
Our new Director will provide inspirational leadership and drive the development and maintenance of a strong, team-oriented culture within the VTH. The critical operational priorities are to provide an outstanding environment for clinical training of students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Veterinary Technology Programs and deliver high-quality veterinary services to fee-paying clients across all animal species relevant to the training needs of the school. This incorporates not only pet/animal owners but also a large group of referring practices throughout the region.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing oversight and governance of operational excellence; leading and mentoring staff; setting and monitoring financial targets and performance; strategic business planning, including identifying opportunities for growth of our clinical practices; high-quality customer engagement; and delivery of an optimal teaching environment.
The Director position will report directly to the Faculty Executive Director while working collaboratively with the Head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (SAVS) and will need to develop close and effective working relationships with relevant committee members, clinical leads, and practice managers and staff.
To be successful, you will need:
- Demonstrated success in a position requiring leadership and management at a senior level and in a multidisciplinary veterinary service environment.
- Substantial and demonstrated experience in implementing commercial growth and sustainability in a veterinary service environment.
- Demonstrated ability in project management; being adaptable and able to respond to emerging and competing priorities, including excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated high-level abilities in human resources management, budgeting and financial management, and strategic planning and policy development.
