The Environment

The UNE SMART farms, situated within the SABL faculty, are valuable resources that enable researchers and their industry and community partners to conduct world class activities that encompass Sustainable, Manageable, Accessible, Rural Technologies (SMART). Additionally, they provide an ideal place to educate students and the community about modern technologies that aim to revolutionize agricultural systems. Covering 3655ha, they support a range of disciplines including natural and agricultural ecosystems, poultry, livestock and canine sciences, precision agriculture and zoology.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, a fulltime role has been created, Director – UNE SMART Farms. You will be responsible for providing overall management of the strategic, operational and financial performance of the UNE SMART Farms.
This includes:
- Develop & implement strategic and operational plans
- Leadership and farm management guidance to staff
- Support significant research projects through effective utilization of farm assets
- Develop and monitor financial budgets and capital expenditure
- Develop and lead governance and industry engagement structures
The Person
To be successful in this senior role you will have the following skills, key attributes and experience:
- Strategic business planning and financial management
- Collaborative leader with outstanding people management & stakeholder engagement skills
- Commercially experienced in operational management of grazing and feedlot livestock farms
- Ideally, an understanding of academic/ researcher’s experimental design and analysis
- Post grad qualifications relevant to grazing, feedlot science or natural ecosystem management, would be well regarded.
