About the role

Are you a highly motivated professional who enjoys driving a high-performance culture?  At the Department of Regional NSW, we like to think big and challenge ourselves.

Join us as a Director, Sheep and Goat Traceability within Primary Industries. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate the cluster’s development and implementation of sheep and goat electronic identification, represent the Department at national forums and influence the impact of emergency animal diseases on the NSW economy. The role will provide high level strategic direction to the NSW DPI Livestock Traceability Program, and build strategic partnerships with industry and other stakeholders through the planning and implementation of traceability programs.

Forming part of the Group Director’s and Chief Veterinary Officers leadership team, in this integral role, you will:

  • Lead the creation and operational management of flexible, agile project teams in the development, review and analysis of comprehensive animal traceability policy.
  • Initiate, implement and lead cluster-wide best practice business planning, performance measurement, reporting systems, and practice for traceability.
  • Evaluate, synthesise and critically analyse complex technical and sensitive issues affecting animal biosecurity policy.
  • Embedding organisational and operational change initiatives across the teams, while maintaining scientific and technical expertise
  • Cultivate a positive, innovative and inclusive work culture.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be comfortable in developing and implementing strategic and business planning and reporting frameworks, performance measures, tools, and systems to deliver against departmental outcomes.

You’ll be a strong communicator (written and verbal), able to influence outcomes with key stakeholders.

Your previous experience will include leading teams to implement high-level deliverables, and operating at a senior level to apply best practice and innovative management to achieve key organisational objectives.

Overall, you’ll have a passion for growing staff knowledge and developing others in a supportive workplace culture focused on the needs of regional NSW.
