Description
As our Director Fisheries Science, you will:
• Provide leadership and strategic direction to assist in the implementation of the Sustainable Fisheries Strategy 2017-2027, including fisheries monitoring programs, stock assessment and reporting.
• Deliver quality advice on the impact of developments on fish habitat and marine plants and oversee any related offsets.
• Work with the Australian Government to ensure export approvals for Queensland's fisheries are maintained.
• Contribute to the identification and achievement of strategic and operational objectives of Fisheries by participating fully as a member of the Fisheries Queensland Executive Management team.
• Provide high level strategic advice, recommendations and options to the Executive Director, Fisheries and Deputy Director-General, Fisheries & Forestry on emerging and current issues of strategic significance to guide decision making.
• Provide expert advice on strategic and operational considerations in the formulation of policy options for the future sustainable management and development of Queensland's fisheries resources.
• Develop strong relationships and consult with peers, staff, clients, community groups, government agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure the services provided by your teams are developed to best practice standards and delivered to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders.
• Effectively managing people, financial and physical resources underpinned by a culture of client service, continuous improvement and innovation.
• Lead specific program management accountabilities through effective budget development, appropriate monitoring, policies and critical reporting requirements.
• Provide executive leadership to the team (which is distributed physically across a number of locations regionally), including fostering of a professional environment which encourages commitment, ethical behaviour, skills development, professional growth and continuous improvement.
