What will your typical day look like?
This position provides the leadership and sets the strategic direction for animal welfare policy in Western Australia and contributes through national fora to Australia’s animal welfare policy. A key component will be ensuring animal welfare legislation is contemporary and fit for purpose. Fostering relations with key stakeholders, the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, relevant industry providers, communities and various government will be important to ensure stakeholders views are taken into consideration in forming animal welfare strategic direction. Your role will lead and facilitate resolution of animal welfare issues through securing stakeholder support, commitment, resources and cross agency and community action.
You will lead the animal welfare team and contribute to our Department’s role as an administrator of the Animal Welfare Act 2002.

We are seeking a proven leader with extensive knowledge and experience in animal welfare policy, research and decision making. The ideal candidate will be highly organised and ambitious, self-motivated and driven to enhance animal welfare outcomes in WA and deliver on departmental commitments. As a proven leader, you will possess the ability to communicate effectively and conduct negotiations with stakeholders. You will hold excellent strategic planning skills to develop long-term plans for the department and regulatory procedures in relation to animal welfare.

- Work related requirement 3 – Role Specific: Extensive experience in the design, development, and coordination of strategic policy initiatives.
- Work related requirement 8 – Lead and empower others: Substantial strategic leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and influence people.

Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

Special Requirements for this position:
