We’re looking for a transformative Director to provide active leadership and build upon the department’s strengths and capitalise on emerging information and technologies. This role will support Queensland’s livestock, fishing and aquaculture industries to address industry challenges and capitalise on opportunities.

What you will do
As the Director, you will lead and manage a portfolio of Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) projects that enhance the sustainability, productivity, profitability and growth of Queensland's livestock, fishing and aquaculture industries. The Director provides science leadership in both program and work unit strategic planning work and manages resources in accordance with strategic and operational plans. You will also:
• Ensure a high standard of science and scientific outputs are maintained by benchmarking through publication in internationally respected journals and promoted through internal and external processes.
• Facilitate the adoption by industry of new technologies, products and practices by demonstrating the increased benefit cost ratio.
• Strategically advance current and future collaborative links and partnerships with relevant sectors of the agriculture industries, external funding bodies, universities, public sector and other relevant agencies in activities
• Integrate the RD&E within the Division with other science units in Agri-Science Queensland and in research collaborations with the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation and other research institutions to deliver both operational efficiencies and innovations.

What you will bring
There are some qualifications that we see as essential/desirable. You must possess a:
• Current ‘C' class drivers licence
• Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in in agricultural science, science, applied science, environmental science, rural science or similar from a recognised tertiary institution.
This role requires personal attributes of diplomacy, leadership, and the ability to lead staff located at multiple centres across Queensland. Demonstrated experience leading a program of RD&E work to deliver industry impact of strategic importance is highly desirable. Possession of a post-graduate qualification in animal, veterinary, agricultural or environmental science from a recognised tertiary institution would also be well regarded.
