Disney Conservation Team Wildlife, a part of Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Team is seeking a conservation biologist with a focus on social science to help deliver on our mission to Lead, Care, Connect and Conserve. Team Wildlife aims to inspire and engage our Cast and Guests in conservation efforts that save species in the wild, especially in areas of business priority. In addition, Team Wildlife works closely with the Disney Conservation Fund, which has inspired millions of people to take action to protect the planet and has directed more than $100 million to save wildlife alongside communities in more than half the countries in the world.

Based in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, this role is integral to our efforts to deliver impact through action aligned with our local and global conservation strategies. The selected candidate will be responsible for representing Disney’s conservation commitment with diverse audiences and stakeholders including executives, Guests, fellow Cast Members and employees, collaborators, and with the media. This position will also maximize conservation storytelling and integration across the team and company, helping to grow the Disney Conservation brand, deliver business value, and advance our commitment to save wildlife, inspire action and protect the planet. This person will report to the Terrestrial Conservation Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, execute and evaluate conservation programs that drive behavior change solutions, inspire a global community, and engage diverse communities to take action for nature
  • Advise/lead program development alongside internal/external collaborators focusing on community engagement, environmental justice, education, interpretation and behavior change.
  • Provide strategic insight and evaluation for all Disney Conservation programs, supporting efforts to collect data, learn, adapt, and report on impact.
  • Facilitate strategy discussions, focus groups and workshops aimed at expanding knowledge, collaboration and conservation outcomes.
  • Contribute expertise and build relationships in support of Disney’s leadership role within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
  • Partner across The Walt Disney Company to maximize storytelling and synergy opportunities that help advance our conservation efforts and drive business results and reputation.
  • Develop events, communications, assets, etc. to help expand storytelling opportunities that inspire and activate our audiences.
  • Collaborate with the ASE Science team to ensure scientific credibility and advance applied conservation.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Disney’s conservation commitment with internal and external audiences.
  • Provide expertise to support philanthropic investments through the Disney Conservation Fund.
  • Publish the results of our scientific, social/conservation impact investigation in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Manage and mentor direct reports and the projects they work on, supporting a culture of inclusion and belonging and an environment of lifelong learning.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills
  • 3 years or more of experience working in conservation, social science or associated disciplines
  • Strong experimental/survey design and analytical skills
  • Experienced in goal setting and execution as well as measuring deliverables
  • Proven skilled scientific generalist with experience working across sectors
  • Demonstrated proposal writing, scientific publications, and grant/proposal critical reviews
  • Ability to work as part of a team, strong interpersonal skills, and a positive team player
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, make decisions and change course of action quickly if necessary
  • Passion for conservation
  • Ability to travel to support field conservation efforts where needed and work in variable conditions
  • Informal education, facilitation and program development experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated media experience, education and presentation abilities
  • Experience with strategic planning, the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation or Miradi Software, and program evaluation and adaptation
  • Knowledge of a second language
  • Experience with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums/World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and related accredited institutions or the AZA Saving Animals From Extinction program
  • SCUBA certified or willingness to attain certification

 

Required Education

  • Ph.D. or Masters with at least 3 years of equivalent experience leading conservation behavior change strategies
