The role & you
Are you passionate about animal welfare and community education? MidCoast Council is looking for a dedicated Companion Animals Officer to join the team. In this role, you will oversee the operations of our companion animal pounds, focusing on returning and rehoming animals while ensuring compliance with the Companion Animals Act.
You will also lead community education programs on responsible pet ownership, contribute to our Companion Animals Management Plan, and handle animals, including those deemed menacing or dangerous. Strong record-keeping and report preparation skills are essential, as is the ability to develop and manage volunteer and adoption programs.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services or equivalent.
- Experience in Companion Animal handling with knowledge and understanding of dog behavior including preparation of behavioral assessments.
- Authorised identifier status or willingness to obtain.
- Strong knowledge of animal legislation and compliance.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for public education.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Salary: Commencing salary package range circa $69,000 to $76,000 p.a. plus superannuation. (Dependent on skills and experience.)
A "to and from" use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Permanent, Full Time, 38 hours per week.
Closing date: Sunday 8 September 2024 at 11.30 pm.
