The role & you

This position sits within the Major Assessment and Regulatory Services Department and is responsible for providing companion animal management and associated education services to the Council and the community. You will be responsible for assisting with the management and operation of Council's companion animal pounds in accordance with industry standards and maintaining a focus on returning and rehoming animals. You will be required to enforce requirements of the Companion Animals Act and undertake relevant education programs with the community on responsible pet ownership.

 

The person

You'll be an experienced animal handler who can undertake initial behavioural assessments and provide animal enrichment.  We'll be impressed with your understanding and knowledge of the Companion Animal Act and industry as it will reflect positively in your experience in the field.

An important part of this role will be developing and enhancing key stakeholder relationships, so you'll be experienced in developing and implementing educational packages accordingly.

In order to be successful in this position you will require:

  • Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services or equivalent.
  • Experience in Companion Animal handling with knowledge and understanding of animal behaviour.
  • Authorised identifier status or willingness to obtain
  • Sound working knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to; the Local Government Act, Companion Animals Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act

 

The package: Commencing salary package circa $63,905 p.a. plus superannuation.

A "to and from" commuter use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.

 

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

 

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
