We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, high performing team of animal care attendants and technicians.  We are seeking a passionate and capable Companion Animal Technician with relevant industry experience to bring their animal care expertise and technical skills to our team.

 

About the role: 

As a Companion Animal Technician, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide exceptional daily care for animals.
  • Be responsible for cleaning and hygiene of animal housing, exercise yards, and equipment.
  • Work with the Animal Welfare officer and Site Veterinarian to ensure animal oversight and welfare.
  • Support delivery of animal husbandry, preventative health and veterinary care programs.
  • Drive the development and execution of socialisation, enrichment, and rehoming programs.
  • Coordinate and implement socialization, enrichment, and training initiatives for companion animals.
  • Facilitate rehoming efforts, including preparing animals for adoption, and supporting inquiries and placement.
  • Assist in breeding programs.
  • Manage facility resources, including food and supplies, and oversee inventory management.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and data management.

 

About you:

  • Relevant qualifications in animal care-related units (Minimum Certificate II Animal Care or other equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in animal handling and husbandry skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable animal care and welfare legislation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast paced environment.
  • Good time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide work independently and provide exceptional animal care.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • A Current NSW driver’s License.

  • Practical knowledge applicable to socialization, enrichment and rehoming programs.
  • A strong sense of teamwork, and an ability to work cohesively across a multi-team. environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Integrity, honesty and a strong work ethic.
  • Certificate or experience in animal behavior and training.

 

Additional Preferences:

  • Understanding of research animals.
  • Forklift License desirable
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Locally based in Greater Western Sydney region.
  • Approved Arrangements Accreditation.
