- D.V.M. or V.M.D. from an accredited veterinary medical college
- Licensed to practice in the state of New Hampshire or able to become licensed within 6 months of hire
- USDA accredited or able to become USDA accredited within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of compliance standards procedures relating to the care of animals in a research environment.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent Surgical skills.
- Ability to instruct others in the care and use of laboratory animals.
- Knowledge of the hazards of exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal scratches and bites, carcinogenic materials, and radioisotopes.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
- Post-doctoral training or 2-3 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine, or the equivalent. ACLAM board certification or board eligible.

- Performs regular clinical services in support of research activities.
- Conducts appropriate checks and observations to ensure that animals used in research and teaching are healthy.
- Ensures that institutional, IACUC, and federal regulatory requirements are met in all respects.
- Communicates with the Attending Veterinarian regarding animal health issues and communicates with Principal Investigators on clinical cases.
- Initiates and directs the development and delivery of an educational program to facilitate compliance with the requirements of law and regulation.
- Instructs and serves as a group leader in orientations, laboratory continuing education, and special presentations.
- Advises and trains investigators on experimental models and designs; equipment and techniques.
- Anticipates potential problem areas associated with proposed approaches; advises on approaches that will eliminate or minimize problems, that will achieve specific objectives, or that will contribute to more productive research.
- Coordinates and facilitates surgical services managed by the CCMR.
- Supports the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
