Clinical Skills Laboratory Coordinator

  • Full time 12 months fixed term located on Camperdown/Camden Campus in the School of Veterinary Science ranked #1 in Australia and #16 globally
  • Opportunity to coordinate technical and provide laboratory support
  • Base Salary HEO 6, $89K - $96K + 17% superannuation

 

About the opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager Technical Support, the Clinical Skills Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for the supervision of the clinical skills laboratory and ensures that the learning and teaching requirements of the work area are met effectively and aligned to the Faculty’s strategy and objectives.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop and produce models in accordance with academic teaching objectives
  • ensure the teaching space is suitable for students to practice consultation skills
  • provide microscopes and other laboratory tools for clinical diagnosis, as well as models for small and large animal surgery and other procedures such as pregnancy testing and dystocia in large and small animals
  • work closely with the coordinators, assist with the management, set-up for Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE’s)
  • establish protocols and processes for OSCE’s
  • ensure that any equipment/models purchased for the lab are selected in consultation with staff who are directly involved in related teaching
  • work with academics to ensure learning spaces are utilised or developed to meet the curriculum requirements, including teaching support for practical classes
  • ensure availability of supplies for practical classes and that the laboratory space is effectively prepared for practicals and tutorials as required by course coordinators and in accordance with scientific protocols.

About you

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in appropriate discipline with subsequent relevant experience in related field, sound technical knowledge of scientific and safety procedures and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • experience in managing laboratory facilities, including experience in demonstrating experiments and using specialised equipment/apparatus’
  • experience with developing research projects, experimental design and preparing ethics submissions and grant applications
  • knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment
  • been vaccinated against Q fever (or is willing to be vaccinated prior to commencing work)
  • a current NSW driver’s license, C Class.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
