Description
We have an opportunity for Clinical Research Fellow to join our team in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health.
This is a 2-year post to facilitate clinical research.
The postholder will lead innovation in the renal clinical trials space in this unique collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow and Dundee, the Scottish Renal Research Network and AstraZeneca, and study for a higher degree over a 2-year period.
Research will form the major component of this post including participation in associated clinical duties. This role will allow the development of research skills and production of data which the postholder should use to develop a research thesis leading to an MD.
We’re looking to transform the conduct of renal trials and improve kidney care for patients in Scotland through improving referral networks for studies, deployment of novel data science techniques including ground-breaking machine learning and targeted interventions to improve care at a local level.
You will work with Professor Patrick Mark (University of Glasgow) and a co-clinical supervisor from AstraZeneca to define objectives around driving rapid recruitment into three large CKD clinical trials which are starting in 2024-2025. Your role initially will be to strengthen referral networks between local healthcare providers and the University to improve recruitment of CKD patients to studies who could benefit from further intervention.
You’ll also meet with data scientists within NHS Scotland and within AstraZeneca to work on further developing ways to identify patients for trial recruitment using traditional data science techniques, and with teams developing novel machine learning techniques to predict CKD progression. Finally, you’ll begin to develop links with your chosen global study team, where you can delve deeply into the science of one of the compounds under development and have the opportunity to participate in science publications with AstraZeneca colleagues.
