Description

Our ‘Why’
We are a truly unique veterinary team. In a world where many vet clinics are scaling back on what they offer their clients and their employees, we continue to see and care for the full gamut of creatures, whether it be in the clinic, in our surrounds, or beyond. We do this because we are passionate about what we do, but also because we understand that all animals sometimes need our help. We come to work to collaborate, share ideas and aim for our patients’ best possible outcome. We embrace the challenging aspects that come from seeing and performing such a varied range of services. Variety is the spice of life!
We love where we live and how rich the rewards can be for your career as a vet. You can spend your entire day amidst the thrills that only vets who do outcalls know about. Then you can be in Melbourne’s CBD less than 60 minutes later to take advantage of all the city has to offer.
If in-clinic vet work is more your thing then we have the experience in our team to cover almost everything, and we empower our vets to manage their cases but with the support of our peers. We regularly and routinely workup medical and surgical cases on a huge array of small ruminant patients too – who said you can’t provide the same level of veterinary care to a farm animal as you would to a dog, cat or horse?
About us:
The clinics’ current clinical lead veterinarian, Dr Josh Ellis, is moving on after 16 years in the practice. During this period Romsey Vet has provided all the professional fulfilment he could have hoped for and he is dedicated to hand over the role to someone with the drive and charisma to continue to make this a truly great practice.
During the last 2 and a half years the clinic has joined with Apiam Animal Health and has not looked back. We are well supported, operate with an amazing level of autonomy, and are able to reap all of the clinical and staff benefits provided by being a part of a larger organisation. As a part of Apiam, we are committed to enriching the lives of animals, people and the communities where we live and strive as a company to deliver our vision of healthy animals and happy people.
The Romsey Veterinary Surgery is fully equipped to manage medical and surgical cases in the full range of companion animals, equine and livestock species. We have a team of vets and nurses who can tackle almost anything, including orthopaedics and TPLO, but we also have the amazing ability to easily refer patients to nearby small animal or equine specialist and hospital facilities when it is required. This allows us to provide the best possible level of care and maximise outcomes.
We treat companion animals as well as sheep, cattle, goats, horses, alpaca and pigs- we see some of everything and are a true mixed animal clinic. The equine caseload is relatively low but could be grown, but we also have a range of local equine vets that we collaborate with who handle all the stud and performance work in our region.
The main drawcard for our clinic is our amazing team of rockstar receptionists and nurses. Besides that, our clinic is comprised of a spacious waiting room and consult rooms, treatment area, sterile surgery theatre etc and we have full in house Idexx blood machines (including ability to run coags, Sedivue), as well as a whiz bang Xray and ultrasound machine. A work vehicle is provided for outcalls and on-call.
About the position:
- We are looking for a motivated, energetic and experienced mixed animal veterinarian who can lead our team of 5 vets.
- Shared afterhours and weekend work with the support of our awesome Vetriage Team, who screen our calls, organise everything and take deposit payments. Our afterhours caseload is generally low, (you are more likely to NOT get a call out on a given night during the week!)
- Whether you’re an experienced leader or stepping into leadership for the first time, Apiam provides professional and personal leadership training. Our support goes beyond just ticking a box – mentorship and ongoing facilitated support helps to ensure you succeed.
Your ‘Why’
- You are an experienced mixed animal vet looking for professional growth and wanting to move into a leadership role and develop leadership skills.
