Position Overview: 

RUSVM operates an on-campus small animal veterinary clinic, Ross University Veterinary Clinic (RUVC), which provides high standards of affordable, primary care veterinary medicine and surgery with excellent customer service to the people of St Kitts and Nevis. RUVC also provides RUSVM students with insight into the daily life of a busy general practice in preparation for their clinical year.

RUVC is provides the broad range of clinical services one would normally expect of a general practice, including 24-hour emergency coverage throughout the year. Diagnostic services such as necropsy and clinical pathology are available on campus. The team in RUVC is engaged in research projects by assisting academics in other departments with data collection and RUVC clinicians are encouraged to pursue their own research projects. The successful candidate would work as part of our team of clinicians and would report to the Director of RUVC.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform all regular small animal primary care medicine and surgery, including provision of the emergency service depending on the demands of RUVC. Flexibility to work overtime/unsociable hours, including weekends and holidays for the purposes of emergency cover. (60%).
  • Participation in Introduction to Clinics and Essential Veterinary Skills (EVS) courses. This involves supervising seventh semester students when they are participating in rotations in RUVC and also students from other semesters participating in EVS labs. The goal of these teaching exercises is to impart the fundamental knowledge base and skills that pre-clinical students need in order to proceed into their clinical year. (35%)
  • Continued education, participation in clinic and faculty meetings, working on assigned committees, meeting with individual students as needed and engagement with research projects. (5%)
  • Completes other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • DVM or other international equivalent.
  • ABVP Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of small animal general practice experience, with experience of working as a sole provider of emergency care. An interest in surgery and/or dentistry would be beneficial.
  • A desire to teach and interact with veterinary students is essential.
  • Experience of teaching students preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office would be beneficial.
