About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Veterinary Science as Clinical Director of our outstanding Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).

Our Veterinary Teaching Hospital boasts the latest in veterinary medical, surgical diagnostic and treatment options across 24-hour Emergency and Critical Care service. Encompassing the Small Animal hospital (including wildlife and exotics), Equine hospital and Production Animal Service, we treat and care for animals that need emergency or primary care, specialist out-patient services, surgery and medical procedures, diagnostic images or hospitalisation at our world-class Gatton facilities.

As Clinical Director, you will primarily be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership of the VTH, in collaboration with the School’s leadership team, to set, communicated and implement the hospitals goals, vision and approach.

In addition, general duties include:

  • Provide clinical leadership for VTHs through serving as senior veterinarian for regulatory and accreditation purposes
  • Work with the VTH and School leadership to manage clinical service workload across professional and academic staff and ensure balance of the need for efficient business practices with priorities related to teaching, research and other service activities.
  • Contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and ongoing development of the curriculum.

This position is located at The University of Queensland’s picturesque Gatton Campus. Our Gatton Campus combines its Queensland Agricultural College heritage with modern research and teaching facilities in veterinary science and agriculture. About You

Alongside a degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent), registrable in Queensland, we are seeking candidates able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in delivery of client-facing veterinary services, preferably including experience in university teaching hospitals.
  • Experience in clinical teaching and student-centred clinical learning.
  • A collegiate management and leadership style incorporating high-level interpersonal and communication skills and promoting collaboration and achievement.
  • Experience in external engagement with the community and with industry and government bodies.
  • Veterinary business management and leadership experience and preferably training.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, five year-fixed-term position at HEW Level 10A.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, including 17% superannuation. The total FTE package including superannuation is in the range AUD$159,715 - $213,128 plus potential market loadings, subject to negotiation.

The incumbent is entitled to four weeks annual leave, 10 days personal leave and an additional five days carer’s leave.
