Description

Position reports to the Associate Dean of Clinical Services/Director of the Pet Health Center and ultimately to the Dean. The faculty member will primarily participate in providing high quality clinical services and clinical instruction during urgent care hours in the Pet Health Center on the Pomona campus. Other clinical and instructional duties may be assigned depending on interest, availability and need.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience with small animal veterinary clinical medicine and surgery
  • Experience with student training and supervision
  • Ability to orally communicate with others, both in person and by telephone. Ability to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, students and outside contacts.
  • Knowledge of educational needs for contemporary veterinary practice.

Required Qualifications

  • DVM degree or equivalent and license to practice in California.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of small animal clinical experience or experience in veterinary emergency care.

Primarily evening, late evening, early morning, and weekend hours. Some faculty duties may require some weekday hours. Hours may vary.

The duties of the clinical instructor are normally performed in a veterinary clinical setting. Depending on individual professional specialty, curriculum duties may require different environmental settings which may include, but is not limited to classrooms, farms, clinical practices, mobile practices, research and academic laboratories, and other off campus settings. Occasionally the employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in these settings are usually moderate due to telephone calls, office equipment, normal student traffic, and depending on species – animal noises.
