Central Veterinary Officer - Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath
6 month FTC - 35 hours per week

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 193,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 36 adoption centres and homing centres.
As the Central Veterinary Officer you will be supporting and managing the efficient administration of the veterinary function. You will have a degree in veterinary medicine and currently be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to practice in the UK.
Main duties:
1. To ensure the appropriate triage of telephone calls, e-mails and post on all matters, including queries and complaints, relating to veterinary/behaviour/welfare issues from staff, volunteers, veterinary profession, public, companies and outside agencies
2. To support the Veterinary Support Manager in the appropriate negotiation and procurement, supply and management of veterinary equipment, products and veterinary medicinal products
3. To liaise with and support adoption centres, branches and their veterinary practices, in collaboration with the Field Veterinary Officers
4. To provide veterinary, behaviour and welfare advice, input and guidance for the Fundraising and Communications, as well as other, departments
5. To act as a spokesperson for the charity in collaboration with the media department
6. To control the central administration of CP veterinary discount schemes (Veterinary Medicinal Products, diagnostic testing, microchips)
7. To promote shelter medicine to enable optimal and cost-effective husbandry, behavioural management and veterinary care of rescue cats
8. To promote population management including kitten neutering to the veterinary profession, volunteers, staff and the public
9. To collate information and produce statistics, spreadsheets, documents, presentations and templates.
10. To promote an understanding of cat welfare needs, and ways to meet these needs, internally and externally
