Are you ready to immerse yourself in the world of wildlife conservation at Oakvale Wildlife Park?
We're seeking a passionate and dynamic Casual Keeper to be a part of our Leaf Cutting and Education Team. If you possess outstanding communication skills, a love for public speaking, and a deep commitment to wildlife, we want to hear from you!
Position Purpose:
- Collaborate with the Leaf Cutting and Education team, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and contributing to the growth of Oakvale Wildlife Park.
Key Responsibilities
Leaf Management and Education:
- Identify and collect koala eucalypt leaves and native browse for various species.
- Research and deliver engaging educational talks on diverse species, tailoring delivery for audience relevance.
Team Collaboration and Visitor Interaction:
- Maintain a professional appearance and engage positively with visitors, sharing experiences.
- Commit to training opportunities provided by Oakvale.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by Senior Keepers or Curator.
Animal Welfare and Husbandry:
- Uphold high standards of animal welfare.
- Maintain husbandry routines and overall animal health to a superior standard.
- Conduct health checks during assigned rounds, promptly reporting and recording any observed changes.
Documentation and Support:
- Maintain meticulous records and contribute to protocol and policy development.
- Address concerns promptly, directing them to appropriate personnel.
- Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety policies, supporting the development of related documentation.
- Ensure proper usage and maintenance of equipment as per instructions.
Essential Qualities:
- Professional demeanour, ability to thrive under pressure.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and effective communication with children of all ages.
Necessary Competencies:
- Analytical thinking, initiative, business awareness, tenacity, strategic thinking.
- Positive approach to change.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Minimum Cert III Captive Animals or a currently enrolled in the course.
- Classification C Manual Driver’s License.
- Current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain one.
Experience:
- Demonstrated commitment to animal welfare and conservation.
- Experience working with children, delivering engaging conservation content.
Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of relevant government Acts and animal welfare legislation.
Skills & Competencies:
- Customer service-focused with clear and concise communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, observation skills, and teamwork mentality.
- Effective time management and organisational skills.
- Positive attitude towards Oakvale's mission and vision.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Prepared for physical demands, including walking, carrying, lifting, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, sitting, standing, twisting, and repetitious movement.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical.
