The Briars is one of the largest properties owned and run by the Mornington Peninsula Shire. The site covers 230-hectares incorporating bushland, farmland and a State significant heritage precinct with 1840’s Homestead. Nine staff and over 50 volunteers maintain and develop the Briars, which welcomes over 180,000 people visit per year, making it one of the most visited destinations on the peninsula.
The role of the Briars Conservation Ranger is to contribute to the management of the Briars natural assets. The position is involved in the delivery of on ground works including but not limited to pest plant and animal monitoring and management, works associated with revegetation including site preparation, planting and maintenance, fence construction and maintenance and other small infrastructure works, in addition to providing support to volunteer and visitor programs within the property.

Job tasks & responsibilities
Core accountabilities include:
- Perform bushland maintenance activities including pest plant and animal management.
- Perform bushland revegetation and natural area restoration
- Undertake minor amenity works (e.g. renewal of gravel paths, fencing, installation of signage)
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely ensuring maintenance and repairs are conducted in a timely and coordinated manner
- Undertake fence construction and maintenance works
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Council policies and procedures and adhering to OHS requirements
Skills, experience and other requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience in bushland management, including various weed management techniques
- A sound knowledge of both introduced and native flora.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Ability to work closely with volunteers to deliver on ground works where required
- Ag Vet Chemical Users Certificate
