Rocky Repro specialises in bovine reproduction and is an export accredited centre, with our operations conveniently located at Alton Downs, just 17 km’s from Rockhampton’s CBD. We provide a full suite of veterinary bovine artificial breeding services and program management, extensive domestic and international marketing of bovine genetic material, and supply of associated reproductive consumables.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a well organised person with superior attention to detail to join our team at Alton Downs as a Production Laboratory Technician. This is an exciting busy role that will suit a process driven person whilst ensuring the highest quality standards are adhered to. Ideally suited to a mature person who enjoys communicating with people and ensuring tasks are completed with a high level of accuracy. Knowledge of the cattle industry and/or bovine artificial breeding practices would be an advantage but is not essential.
THE ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is primarily a biological production laboratory within our purpose built collection centre.
Rocky Repro is located only 15km from Rockhampton the hub of central Queensland and is only a 1-hour flight to/from Brisbane. The Centre is located in a pleasant semi-rural lifestyle environment. Rockhampton has a population of approximately 80,000 and is well serviced with schools, hospitals, cultural, and sporting facilities. It has all the amenities of a vibrant regional centre and is only ½ an hour from the beach – an ideal location for both singles and families.
The primary responsibilities of the production laboratory are:
- All aspects of processing semen and maintaining the Lab. Including preparation of extenders, assessment of motility, density, extension, straw printing and filling, freezing, post-thaw testing and analysis, washing/sterilising lab-ware and collection equipment.
- Ensuring collection records are accurately followed and recorded.
- Post thaw analysis and testing.
- Pack and store the collections, with diligent attention to recording locations.
- Testing third-party frozen semen and preparing reports.
- Liaising with the collection and dispatch teams.
- Ensuring the lab and wash up room are always adequately stocked with all consumables.
- Ensuring the lab, wash-up room and cool room are always clean and tidy.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Year 12 high school (mandatory).
- Relevant post high school study and/or experience (highly desirable).
- Good working knowledge of MS Office and common IT systems.
- Biological Laboratory or vet/medical background an advantage.
- Knowledge of the beef cattle industry and/or bovine artificial reproduction would be an advantage.
- All necessary procedural training will be provided.

- Have a sound working knowledge of MS Office and general business computer systems (training will provided on our specific systems).
- The ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Work precisely to set production protocols.
- Ability to work irregular hours during peak periods is required.
Remuneration package commensurate with skills and experience will be paid to the successful applicant.
