The Opportunity

Our Environmental Implementation team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Biosecurity Specialist - Marine and Freshwater to join the team on a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) basis, in our busy Dunedin office.

The purpose of the Biosecurity Specialist - Marine and Freshwater role is to provide technical advice, develop programmes and projects, and lead delivery of these to enable the ORC's Environmental Implementation Team to effectively implement freshwater and marine biosecurity management and achieve positive outcomes for the environment.

As a Biosecurity Specialist - Marine and Freshwater, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist biosecurity advice to the Environmental Implementation Team and wider ORC including external stakeholders
  • Contributing to freshwater and marine biosecurity strategic and operational programme development
  • Analysing freshwater and marine biosecurity data to guide and inform programme implementation.
  • Developing and delivering effective work programmes with respect to biosecurity management

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biosecurity, Ecology, Zoology, Biodiversity or Environmental Management
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a biosecurity, biodiversity, ecology, or conservation related role
  • A current, full and clean NZ driver's license
  • Experience solving complex problems collaboratively.
  • Experience in developing and delivering large-scale strategic plans, programmes and projects for pest management.
