Description
As our Biosecurity Officer, you will:
• Investigate alleged breaches of legislation under the Biosecurity Act 2014 and Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.
• Ensure compliance with legislation relevant to the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Program.
• Conduct appropriate auditing and monitoring activities associated with the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Program in the district.
• Manage the risks presented by animal pests and diseases to Queensland's primary industry production.
• Provide advice to your team leader, Zone Leader, Manager Operations and General Manager, Animal Biosecurity and Welfare on biosecurity issues.
• Provide leadership to staff in the promoting and implementation of the ‘Queensland Biosecurity Strategy' and the relevant objectives of the Biosecurity Queensland Business and Operations Plans.
• Represent the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare program on biosecurity forums and committees in the district and in community engagement processes to achieve biosecurity goals.
• Work across the operations areas of Biosecurity Queensland to help manage and build an effective organisation.
• Utilise the BORIS data management and reporting systems.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships, networks and partnerships with stakeholders, including government, community and industry leaders to facilitate effective biosecurity outcomes.
• Foster an environment that values individual and team performance and continuous improvement and ensure that the program's management practices are consistent with contemporary “best practice”.
• Participate in Emergency Animal Disease responses at a district, state-wide or interstate level. This can include field work in remote areas and/or being based away from home for periods of time in excess of one (1) week.
Mandatory requirements:
• A diploma, advanced diploma, qualification in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution. The relevant fields are animal science, production or husbandry or animal biosecurity and welfare.
Regulatory training or experience will be looked on favourably.
• A current ‘C' class drivers' licence
You might also have:
• Appointment under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and the Biosecurity Act 2014 will be favourably regarded.
• Practical experience in animal welfare and disease investigations in the field will be favourably regarded.
