Key tasks and responsibilities of the role (your contribution)
• Perform the regulatory role of a Biosecurity Officer by:
o conducting inspection, audit, monitoring and surveillance activities, predominately in horticulture and agriculture but at times in livestock industries
o carrying out regulatory activities (including authorised investigations of alleged breaches of legislation) in accordance with procedures under the Biosecurity Act 2014, Chemical Usage (Agricultural and Veterinary) Control Act 1988, Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Act 1966 and the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
o supporting Biosecurity activities in incident and emergency responses.
• Provide timely advice to team members, Senior Principal Biosecurity Officer, Operations Manager, Project Leaders and other key internal staff on PB&PI issues impacting the Central zone.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently within the plant biosecurity and product integrity team to ensure workloads are managed appropriately and reports are accurate, timely and in accordance with standards.
• Work with minimal supervision, ensuring all duties are undertaken safely and according to appropriate standards, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Apply skills in risk assessment and problem solving to achieve desired biosecurity outcomes.
• Support colleagues within your team and strive for quality biosecurity outcomes when working autonomously or together.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and self-development to improve PB&PI operational delivery within the zone.
• Locally represent Biosecurity Queensland by developing and maintaining effective relationships, networks and partnerships with stakeholders (including government), community and industry leaders to facilitate effective biosecurity outcomes.
