About the role
This is a permanentfull-time, Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm position working 35 hours per week. This position is located at the Bomaderry Works Depot, 2 McIntyre Way, Bomaderry.

 

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

 

Duties
Reporting directly to the Lead – Land Management, the focus of this position is to:

 

  • Manage the private property inspection program to ascertain the level of weed infestation and make recommendations to control infestations.
  • Determine the need for legal action in accordance with the Biosecurity Act (2015).
  • Issue Weed Control Notices or Penalty Notices to ensure that weed control activities are carried out.
  • Develop and implement Council’s weed and pest control programs for land under the care, control and management of Council as requested by relevant Council asset custodians.
  • Prepare and maintain Council’s Pesticide Notification Plan and input to Council’s Biosecurity website pages including notifications of proposed pesticide use.
  • Prepare and implement public education programs including organising media releases/publicity, concerning weeds and pests, their spread and control methods.
  • Prepare grant applications to obtain supplementary funds for the control of weeds, including liaising with other coastal Councils to potentially develop funding applications for the control of priority weeds and pests on a regional basis.
  • Prepare reports relating to the expenditure of grant funds and weed control activities carried out by Council on an annual basis.

 

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

 

  • Degree in Biosecurity, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture or Agriculture, or equivalent.
  • Extensive relevant experience in the management of pest plants and animals.
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Industry experience in dealing with vegetation and/or pest animal management using pesticides, biological controls and other methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of a risk management approach to vegetation and/or pest animal management involving the use of chemicals.
  • Experience in the use of computer software and user level database management.
  • Experience in managing staff.
