ABOUT THE ROLE
AHA is seeking an animal health and biosecurity professional to join the Biosecurity Team within the Emergency Preparedness, Animal Health and Biosecurity program area on a full-time, permanent basis. The Biosecurity Team delivers animal health and biosecurity projects to assist AHA members and their producer members.
As a member of the Biosecurity Team, the Biosecurity Coordinator will be responsible for working with leaders and colleagues to coordinate activities such as planning, budgets, policies, procedures, reporting and stakeholder engagement, and generate impact by successfully implementing animal health and biosecurity projects and activities. The successful candidate will play an integral part of a dynamic team, working under the direction of the Head of Program, Biosecurity.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Supporting the development, delivery, administration and maintenance of Biosecurity project activities and resources.
- Applying project management principles in planning for, implementing, tracking and evaluating Biosecurity activities and projects.
- Working collaboratively and innovatively with internal and external stakeholders on a range of biosecurity and livestock health projects.
- Working with the Project Management Team in holding project working group and committee meetings, including preparation of meeting papers.
- Communicating and liaising effectively with AHA staff and member organisations, partners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrating AHA values in their daily approach to work and interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
Total remuneration for this position is in the range of $75,000 – $105,000 (including super) and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of experience.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role – preference for agricultural, animal or veterinary science.
- Experience and/or working knowledge of the Australian animal health, agricultural or biosecurity sector.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with members and key stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to show initiative, flexibility and work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in contemporary office software applications and communication tools, such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively and innovatively with leaders and colleagues at all levels of the organisation, as well as independently.
- Sound interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Commitment to deliver excellent customer service.
Desirable
- Project management qualifications and/or experience.
- Stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
- Ability to distil complex scientific information into plain English suitable for a non-technical audience.
- Experience or skills in monitoring and evaluation.
- Emerging leadership capabilities.
