Cattle Australia is the national peak body for the grass-fed cattle industry representing the interests of all Australian grass-fed cattle producers.

 

The biosecurity, animal health and welfare policy officer role within Cattle Australia is a unique opportunity for a person with a strong understanding of animal biosecurity arrangements to make a genuine impact for cattle producers in Australia.

 

Reporting to the Policy Manager, the role will require a person with strong time-management skills and an ability to manage conflicting work priorities. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining biosecurity, animal health and welfare engagement for Cattle Australia. Part time or flexible arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

 

Duties Statement                                                                                                                       

  • Biosecurityanimal health and welfare – research and remain up to date with developments including policy, planning, strategy.
  • Stakeholder Management – collaborate with and lead key Cattle Australia stakeholders including grass fed cattle producers, service providers, governments and other Peak Industry Bodies.
  • Representation – where appropriate, represent and advocate on behalf of Cattle Australia and grass-fed cattle producers at numerous external meetings.  This includes articulating Cattle Australia’s positions to other organisations.
  • Advise – provide timely and accurate advice to the Cattle Australia CEO, Board, Committees and Working Groups where appropriate as well as staff and media team.
  • Liaison – Build high value relationships with lead government agencies and Ministers offices that support the policy ambitions of Cattle Australia.
  • Research – Undertake research for publications, meeting papers, media briefs and member communications.
  • Member Liaison - Liaise and engage proactively with members across the breadth of CA membership including replying to member concerns regarding biosecurity.
  • Other Duties - Liaise with other Peak Industry Bodies and build consensus across industries regarding Cattle Australia’s policy positions.

 

Selection Criteria       

The successful applicant will have:

  • A sound knowledge of the Australia cattle industry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in veterinary science and/or Agriculture.
  • An ability to collaborate and lead a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Experience in secretariate, policy and strategy support services.
  • A demonstrated ability for networking and relationship building.
  • A capacity for working alone or as part of a team.

 

The Successful applicant may have a thorough understanding of Australia’s:

  • Trade and Phytosanitary commitments.
  • Animal Welfare practices, policies and laws.
  • Biosecurity systems and policies, including biosecurity threats facing Australia’s Cattle Industry and current biosecurity measures.
