Description
- We're seeking a skilled Facilities Veterinarian to manage animal clinical care, emergencies, surgery, anaesthesia, and biosecurity in the STEM College's Bioresources Platform
- 1 x full time (part time options available), ongoing position available
- HEW 8 ($112,068 - $126,209) + 17% Superannuation
- Based at the Bundoora campus, however you may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University.
The Facilities Veterinarian has a primary role in managing and ensuring the clinical care and biosecurity of animals used within the STEM College's Bioresources platform and research laboratories. This role encompasses a range of critical responsibilities, including routine animal clinical care, responding to adverse events and emergency care, preventive medicine, anaesthesia, analgesia, surgery and animal quarantine.
To be successful in this position, you'll have:
- Experience and understanding of laboratory science medicine along with significant involvement with the quality assurance and biocontainment programs required to assure and maintain suitability of animals used for research and teaching at RMIT University's Bioresources Facilities.
- Experience in performing appropriate diagnostic workups and problem solving in a clinical veterinary setting.
- Knowledge of diseases that can affect common laboratory animal species.
- Demonstrate an understanding of scientific animal research methods, animal ethics principles relevant regulatory requirements applicable in a biomedical research environment.
- Experience with having developed and implemented training programs for both technical staff and academic staff
- Demonstrable commitment to animal ethics and welfare and a willingness to work closely with other stakeholders within and outside RMIT University to support the well-being of animals.
- High level of communication, problem solving abilities, negotiation and change management skills.
Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Australia, including a Veterinary Medicine Degree and extensive relevant work experience. Current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria
