Barnswallow, A Wild Bird Concern is a state and federally licensed wild bird rehabilitation and education center located in Lake County, Illinois. Barnswallow is dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors and songbirds with the goal of restoring their freedom in the wild and helping the public become aware of the wonderful winged creatures with which weshare this space. It is a private, not-for-profit 501C3 Illinois Corporation supported entirely by private funding and donations.

Assistant will be involved in all aspects of wildlife care from admission to release. This includes animal husbandry responsibilities, administering medications and fluids, and rescues and releases. Day-to-day responsibilities include feeding baby birds, cleaning enclosures, dealing with the public, food preparation and some education to the public.

Qualifications: Applicant should have a strong interest in avian rehabilitation and care. No previous rehabilitation experience required. Candidates should be enrolled in college and pursuing a degree in wildlife, captive wildlife, biology, or closely related field. Other fields of interest will be considered.

Dates: Seasonal Position from September 23-January 23

Hours: 5 days per week (Days will be the same each week or alternating one day), 1-4 hours per day. One weekend day for one hour required each weekend but timing and day is flexible. Will not need to work Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve or Day or New Years Day.

This is is a seasonal part time position. Weekly stipend of $250 will stay the same even if hours are less.
