The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science is an innovative and forward thinking school at University of Nottingham. This is demonstrated by the dramatic increase of our student numbers by moving to a dual intake system. In September 2019 150 undergraduate students started with us, with a further 150 starting in April 2020. We have been consistently ranked #1 in NSS survey since our first graduating cohort in 2011. The school has 4 strategic research areas: “Diagnostics and Therapeutics” , “One Virology” , “Ruminant Population Health” and “Global Health: Antimicrobial Resistance”.
We are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor / Professor with a track record of leading a research programme in the field of epidemiology, preferably from a one-health perspective and/or with substantial global engagement. In addition to maintaining their own research programme, the successful candidate will play a role in supporting the development of the One Virology research cluster within the School. They will also provide a role model that promotes a positive research culture.
The One Virology research cluster is part of the Wolfson Centre for Global Virus Research (WCGVR). The WCGVR received a Royal Society Wolfson Laboratory Refurbishment Grant and significant additional support from the University of Nottingham. This allowed refurbishment of a dedicated bio-containment laboratory suite enabling research to be carried out using ACDP HG3 / SAPO3 pathogens. Further funding has been awarded by the University for refurbishment of a nearby block of laboratories and offices.
The track record of the successful candidate will be judged on a range of research outcomes including publications, obtaining competitive funding, generating collaborations and partnerships, promoting the careers of junior scientists, professional awards, engagement and outreach activities etc. We are looking for a research vision that complements the current strengths of the One Virology research cluster and has the potential for interdisciplinary research opportunities within the School and the wider University. We are also looking for a colleague who will promote the supportive, inclusive, and collaborative research culture within the school.
In addition to their research role, the successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching within the School, supervise postgraduate research students and undertake administrative duties appropriate to the grade to which they are appointed.
This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours). Arrangements for job share may be considered.
