About Us

The Internationally Accredited School of Veterinary Medicine trains Veterinary Science graduates through their highly regarded Doctor of Veterinary Medicine course. We are the only Australian University with an on-site Farm, supported by 3 other properties in the surrounding areas. We pride ourselves on graduating Veterinarians with excellent day 1 competencies, research experience and problem-solving skills. Production Animal Medicine is a key discipline with a busy hospital and ambulatory service. The service is intrinsically involved in clinical, research, teaching and support of the agricultural community. Our production and equine teams work closely in the large animal section of the hospital. A central part of the training is development of core clinical competencies and as part of this process veterinary science students undertake training in our hospital, clinics, and clinical services.

Production Animal Medicine is a key discipline within the School of Veterinary Medicine. The discipline also contributes to research in production animal medicine and supports a clinical service for The Animal Hospital and externally to the community of Western Australia.

 

The Role

A Professorial appointment is recognised as a leader in the discipline, with an international track record in research and a reputation for academic excellence.  A Professor is expected to provide leadership at the College and University level and cultivate excellence in teaching, research, and professional activities.  This position makes a substantial contribution to the mentoring effort of the University and has a special responsibility to guide and develop the next generation of academic staff at Murdoch University.  To be appointed to the Professoriate, an academic will have a continuing high level of personal commitment to, and achievement in, a particular scholarly area.

 

What you’ll bring to this role

  • A veterinary degree registrable by the Veterinary Surgeons’ Board of Western Australia, board certification and a PhD in an area relevant to appointment plus extensive relevant
  • Experience in academic leadership including a record of building successful teams and driving performance in a large, complex environment
  • A track record of success in producing high quality independent research outputs that have international impact and influence.
  • A track record of success in attracting external competitive research funding that has national and/or international impact.
  • A high level of achievement in successfully supervising honours, Masters by Coursework, HDR and postgraduate students to completion.
  • A record of success in the application of curriculum design and pedagogy, including substantial experience with leading and designing programs of study.
  • Demonstrated links with relevant industry groups and external stakeholders that will advance the teaching and research interests of the discipline, the College and the University.
  • Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
