About This Opportunity
UQ's School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability is excited to be launching a search for an Associate Professor or Professor in Animal Science; Livestock Animal Breeding and related technologies.
Based within a team of animal scientists who do research and teach into a Production Animals major in the Bachelor of Agricultural Science, we are searching for an academic who can demonstrate excellence across teaching, research, and service and engagement.
Key Areas:
We are looking for people with expertise in (but not limited to) one or more of the the following areas:
- Digital Livestock - e.g., use and development of sensor technology as applied to livestock e.g. applied use of technologies to drive livestock management and sustainability.
- Sustainable Livestock Production - e.g., emissions abatement technologies such as feed supplements, management practices that drive sustainability, welfare, precision technologies.
- Meat Science - e.g., meat quality & processing; intrinsic and extrinsic factors that impact on meat quality (biology, physiology and nutrition).
- Livestock Breeding - e.g., development of applied breeding strategies that will promote growth, reproduction, health, feed utilization and sustainability, genomic selection, use of SNPs, MAS etc.to develop breeding programs.
The academic excellence that defines the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability is enabled by amazing staff, high-quality students, and world-class facilities and laboratories on UQ's St Lucia and Gatton campuses. This includes:
- Over 120 academic staff, 50 professional and technical staff, and 150 HDR students.
- The Queensland Animal Science Precinct, located at the Gatton Campus - a 1000-hectare commercial farm and horticultural fields in the fertile Lockyer Valley.
- Over 1100 full-time equivalent coursework students enrolled in a range of Science and Agriculture related undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.
- Outstanding on and off-campus experiences for students, including field trips across Australia and overseas.
- A wide range of research projects and programs to address complex issues relating to modern and sustainable agricultural systems, and the nutritional quality and safety of food.
As Associate Professor/Professor you will be integral to growing our undergraduate teaching program, as well as furthering our valuable collaborations with the School of Veterinary Science, research institute QAAFI and wider UQ.
