Job Description:
The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track or clinical-track position in Surgical Oncology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position is focused on teaching and clinical service, but also provides opportunities to participate in clinical and bench-top research. Teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction in the professional curriculum and the supervision of surgical oncology fellows and interns. Participation in the clinical service in the UF Veterinary Hospital includes receiving and management of surgical oncology cases, consultations with within the hospital and with practicing veterinarians, participating in the growth of this service and continuing education. The University of Florida seeks to advance scholarship and discovery in the area of clinical and translational research; candidates will be expected to demonstrate the potential to contribute to research in this area.
The successful candidate will join a team of two (three total) surgical oncologists and will be a part of the ACVS Fellowship Program in Surgical Oncology. UF is one of three recognized surgical oncology fellowship programs in the world. Our surgical oncology service is an integrated service. The successful candidate will work alongside three medical oncologists who are Diplomates of the ACVIM (Medical Oncology) as well as a radiation oncologist in a beautiful 100,000 square foot Small Animal Hospital (for a virtual tour see web link at: http://youtu.be/TOqvldQFYgQ & http://youtu.be/Aubwddx28f0 ). Features of the hospital include a 1.5T MRI, helical CT, gamma camera, ten operating rooms, C-arm fluoroscopy, portable radiography, state of the art laparoscopy/thoracoscopy, a state of the art interventional radiology suite, electrochemotherapy and a linear accelerator with cone beam CT, a multi-leaf collimator and stereotactic radiotherapy. The Oncology service is equipped with a Varian 21EX linear accelerator with 6MV photons and 6-20 MeV electrons, cone-beam CT, KV imaging, a 120 leaf multi-leaf collimator, framed and frameless stereotactic radiosurgery package, respiratory gating and a wide range of image guided therapies including IMRT.
Development of a collaborative research program in an area of surgical oncology is expected. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the College and with the UF College of Medicine (Shands Cancer Center). The oncology service also offers various studies and clinical trials and is a member of the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC). The successful candidate will have access to a well-equipped comparative oncology research lab and be eligible to compete for competitive intramural and endowed research funds.
