The Opportunity
Are you passionate about fostering continuous improvement in the Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy areas? Are you a motivated, skilled professional with a passion for building capability and best practices?
The APVMA’s Records and Knowledge Management team is seeking applications for an Assistant Director FOI and Privacy to work across the business to lead the agencies FOI and Privacy functions.
Located in Canberra ACT, or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and have the opportunity to work in a highly collegial and productive multidisciplinary team.
The Role
The Assistant Director, FOI and Privacy is part of the Records and Knowledge Management team. The role is responsible for the APVMA’s responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, privacy queries and complaints about the agency received via email, as well as ensuring that the agency meets all its obligations under the relevant legislation and is consistent with whole-of-government best practice.
Working within a small, cross-functional team, the Assistant Director, FOI, and Privacy will set a high standard of professionalism and effective management of the FOI, Privacy and Complaints functions.
Our ideal candidate
To be a strong contender for the role, you will have:
1. Tertiary qualifications in Law or equivalent professional/legal experience in an APS setting.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience managing FOI and privacy matters.
3. Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex, technical, or legal information clearly.
4. Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills.
5. Ability to work effectively in a small team environment and contribute to a positive working culture.
6. Ability to manage and prioritise work in achieving quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
7. Ability to work with minimal direction while also accurately identifying emerging legal or risk issues that require escalation and/or broader consultation.
