An exciting opportunity to join a small, committed and professional secretariat based in Canberra. Animal Medicines Australia (AMA) is a membership-based association representing companies that produce products to support the health and welfare of Australia's animals. The association works with stakeholders to promote animal health, support responsible and sustainable livestock industries, and encourage long-lasting and rewarding pet ownership experiences.
About the position
We are seeking an Assistant Director - Engagement and Communications to implement AMA's communications and engagement functions. The successful candidate will be able to influence, advise and collaborate, engage across media, ministerial stakeholders as well as other animal industry, welfare and veterinary bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- In partnership with the Executive Director, lead the development and implementation of AMA's stakeholder engagement plan, including mapping stakeholder groups, and assessing stakeholder needs and expectations,
- Develop communication and engagement deliverables, including media releases, social media management, and talking points consistent with AMA's advocacy goals and priorities,
- In partnership with AMA staff, develop internal and external communications materials outlining industry positions, activities and priorities,
- Develop and coordinate launch campaigns for industry research reports on pet ownership, animal health, product stewardship and other matters, and
- Engage AMA members through industry committees, including coordinating meetings of the Industry Communications Taskforce.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a background in a similar engagement and communications role within a member advocacy organisation or government agency. You will have exceptional written communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing media releases, newsletters and other documents on complex policy and regulatory issues. You will need to demonstrate high-level engagement skills that enable you to build strong and effective working relationships with AMA's members and key stakeholders across government, industry and community.
The successful applicant will be able to work independently, with excellent initiative, drive and determination. A proactive approach to engaging with staff, members and stakeholders and eagerness to learn about the positive role animal health products and veterinary medicines play will be well regarded.
