Job Description:
The College of Agriculture at Tennessee State University is establishing a One Health Center and seeking a Veterinary One Health Scientist that will conduct research at the interface of environmental, wildlife, and agricultural health. Research areas should include both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the ideal candidate will have skill-sets that include observational, molecular, analytical, and laboratory experimental approaches to One Health including precision genome editing of invertebrates and vertebrates using CRISPR. Potential areas of research include emerging pathogens/zoonoses, environmental and animal health linkages, ecosystem and animal health, landscape epidemiology, and veterinary and ecological research. Evaluation of the impacts of habitat and landscape disturbance, invasive species, and environmental change that lead to pathogen prevalence and emergence are of particular interest. The successful candidate will be expected to develop novel research that is funded by a wide variety of federal, state, and non-profit partners.
Applicants with a dual degree (DVM/PhD) are strongly encouraged to apply, and the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate broadly with Agricultural and Environmental Sciences faculty in the College of Agriculture. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, instruct courses relevant to the One Health discipline, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will be expected to assist in the advisement of undergraduate students aspiring to attend a Veterinary Medical School.
Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral research experience in the field of One Health is expected. The candidate must display potential for excellence in teaching, research, and professional and university service. Demonstration of prior peer-reviewed publications and acquisition of extramural funds is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates that outline an interdisciplinary research program.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Veterinary Science or DVM
