We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW is dedicated to working with the community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

 

About the Role

RSPCA NSW is seeking a motivated and energetic Assessment and Rehabilitation Trainer to join our Sydney Shelter team. You will be responsible for conducting behaviour assessments on incoming animals as well as assisting with the development and implementation of environmental enrichment and behaviour modification programs for animals under RSPCA NSW care.

This permanent full-time role requires regular weekend work and some public holidays based on a 7-day rotating roster.

 

Duties and responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Conducting behaviour assessment on incoming animals
  • Observing and monitoring animals for signs of behavioural concerns
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation plans
  • Update and maintain animal records
  • Provide advice to staff members, foster carers, volunteers and members of the public
  • Attend home visits when required to conduct behaviour assessments
  • Provide pre and post adoption support and training
  • Assist Assessment and Rehabilitation Manager with staff training
  • Participate in animal surrender or animal adoption when required
  • Administer medications

 

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in canine behaviour/training/behaviour modification or equivalent – essential
  • Certificate II in Animal Studies - essential
  • Previous experience in performing dog assessments - advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge of dog behaviour, socialisation and positive reinforcement training techniques
  • Excellent communication skills and team player
  • Strong communication and customer service skills both written and verbal
  • Developed animal handling skills to capture, restrain, medicate\Demonstrated experience in animal rehabilitation and modification
  • Demonstrated practical experience in animal behaviour modification and training
  • Relationship management and interpersonal skills
  • Current C class driver’s licence – essential
  • Ability to lift 20 kilograms
