Department Description

The Center for Equine Health (CEH), as part of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, is dedicated to advancing the health, welfare, performance, and veterinary care of horses through research, education and public service. We also serve as the USDA’s California contagious equine metritis (CEM) quarantine and treatment station for mares and stallions newly imported into the United States.

This position is located in Templeton, California. Start date: August 5th, 2024

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the facility manager, oversee the health, safety, and well-being of all horses at Templeton Farms. With strict adherence to USDA protocols, provide technical support and expertise for the Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) quarantine program. Deliver individualized care and ensure well-being of recently imported horses, perform specialized cultures to determine CEM status, update owners/agents/trainers regarding horse’s status and quarantine progress. Coordinate with laboratories to obtain test results, working to ensure the integrity of the program and protect the US equine breeding industry. Support the day-to-day operations of the CEH in furthering its mission of advancing the health, welfare, performance, and veterinary care of horses.
