The Woolworths Group Environment Manager for Animal Welfare and Sustainable Protein is accountable for driving the development, implementation and management of animal welfare and responsible seafood across the Woolworths Group. Ensuring that risk is mitigated from supply chains within the Group's operations, that animal welfare is never compromised and seafood is sourced in a responsible manner. Including assessing and mitigating business risk around biosecurity outbreaks across the protein sectors.
Accountable for the delivery of the Lead the Future Protein 2025 sustainability commitments, addressing and managing challenges, issues and crises relating to animal welfare, biosecurity and seafood across the Group.
Responsibilities Include
- Leading and and monitoring governance of effective sustainable supply chain risk management and strategy across the areas of protein.
- Leading and managing the delivery of our animal welfare, protein, seafood and requirements.
- Advising, leading and managing complex supply chain issues across the group in relation to protein.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on issues, risks and projects to raise awareness of and build support for the team's activities and the projects which deliver the Woolworths sustainability objectives
- Managing relationships with NGOs with interests in animal welfare and responsible seafood, in conjunction with appropriate divisional representatives.
- Liaising with the Woolworths' Government Relations team on key policy issues and inquiries as they arise.
- Tracking the delivery of Group KPI's for animal welfare & seafood commitments and taking action to drive compliance and continuous improvement
About You
You are an outstanding thought leader in sustainability and animal welfare who can deliver the right outcome for Woolworths and our customers. You are a collaborative influencer who can work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver commercial and customer focused change to drive our brand values. You professionally lead the establishment and delivery of commercially relevant strategy and policy and their execution across animal welfare and seafood.
You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Veterinary Science or Agriculture
- Deep technical understanding of agricultural systems and related sustainability impacts in Australia. In particular, a technical understanding of livestock supply chains and related animal welfare issues
- Extensive animal welfare and or seafood experience across proteins
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate peers, communicate with colleagues and engage with management
- Self motivated and self starter to execute and deliver projects from conception to completion
- Good commercial acumen, experience working across multi-disciplined teams
- Experience working with external stakeholders and suppliers e.g. Government and Industry Bodies
- Experience in working with third party certifiers and implementing these certifications schemes into a business e.g. RSPCA;
- Broad knowledge and experience of the retail/FMCG or QSR industry in executing animal welfare initiatives
- Experience in developing strategy, policies and procedures
- Ability to horizon scan local and international market for consumer and competitive information to inform and ensure supermarket policies are appropriate and future proof
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities and projects efficiently in a large organisation
- Ability to operate and adapt within a fast paced culture of change Industry network spanning NGO's, farming and industry groups
