Description

RSPCA ACT is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join its team as an Inspector. As an Inspector, you will play a crucial role in responding to enquiries from the public concerning animal welfare. The position involves working closely with all areas of the RSPCA team, community and government-based organisations to ensure that animal welfare  is upheld.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Investigation and Enforcement. 
  • Conduct thorough investigations into reported cases of animal cruelty, neglect, and abuse.
  • Collect evidence, interview witnesses, and collaborate with relevant authorities to build strong cases for legal action.
  • Attend and provide evidence at court or tribunals where required.
  • Enforce animal welfare laws to ensure the protection of animals.
  • Undertake communication duties including regular telephone use.

 

2. Rescue and Rehabilitation 

  • Safety and compassionately rescue animals in distress, ensuring their immediate wellbeing.
  • Liaise with the broader RSPCA team to ensure animals gain the required treatment after coming to the attention of the inspectorate.

 

3. Education. 

  • Provide educational advice to raise awareness about animal welfare issues.
  • Liaise with the RSPCA educational and media team where required.
  • Advocate for stronger animal welfare legislation and participate in relevant public awareness campaigns.

 

4. Documentation and Reporting. 

  • Collate and prepare Briefs of Evidence and other supporting documentation about inspectorate activities.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records about investigations and actions.
  • Collate and submit weekly activity reports to the Senior or Chief Inspector for submission to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Utilise technology and tools to streamline documentation processes.
  • Ahere to strict timeframes pertaining to administrative duties.

 

5. Collaboration and Networking. 

  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, legal professionals, and other animal welfare organisations.
  • Build positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders to enhance support for animal welfare initiatives.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions to training sessions to stay informed about the best practices and industry developments.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills. 

  • Experience in law enforcement or a related field will be highly regarded.
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations or other relevant qualification.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments under pressure.
  • Physically and mentally fit to undertake the expected tasks.
  • Maintain an Australian Drivers Licence.

In the event no suitable investigation qualifications are held, it is a requirement of employment a qualification at Certificate IV or higher is held within 12 months of commencement.
