Description
The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia that cares for, treats, protects and rehomes animals across the state, providing a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. RSPCA ACT is dedicated to working with the Canberra community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
About the Role
The RSPCA ACT is currently recruiting for an Inspector to join their small team. This role involves conducting investigations into animal cruelty cases and enforcing animal welfare laws within the Australian Capital Territory.
As an Inspector, your main responsibility will be to investigate reports of animal cruelty. This includes conducting on-site inspections, collecting evidence, and documenting findings. You will also have the authority to take statements from witnesses and gather information for legal proceedings.
In addition to your investigative duties, you will be expected to appear in court to provide testimony and present evidence. This requires strong communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to handle legal proceedings professionally.
The role may also involve working after-hours, as animal cruelty incidents can occur at any time. Being available to respond to emergencies and urgent situations is an essential part of the job.
The RSPCA ACT values education and professional development. As such, they encourage their inspectors to continuously improve their knowledge and skills in animal welfare and law enforcement. Opportunities for training and further education may be provided to support your professional growth in this role.
In view of this we may consider a traineeship in Cert IV Government Investigations for candidates of the right fit for our organisation.
About You
To be successful in this position application you will require:
- Prior experience in law enforcement, animal welfare, or a related field is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of animal welfare legislation and an understanding of investigative procedures are also desirable.
- Holding a Cert IV in Government Investigations, or equivalent will be highly regarded.
By joining the RSPCA ACT as an inspector, you will contribute to the protection and well-being of animals within the ACT community, ensuring that those who commit animal cruelty are held accountable for their actions.
