Job Description

The Opportunity 

We are seeking an Animal Welfare Advisor on a part time basis (3 days per week) to join our Animal Welfare team. This is an opportunity to work with internal and external sources to inform strategic decision-making on animal welfare. You will be required to undertake analysis and coordinate data dissemination and KPI deliverables specific to animal welfare objectives.

Other duties will include:

  • Support the development and extension of data requirements to enable data-driven decision-making and accurate reporting for animal welfare
  • Coordinate the application and selection process for the RWWA Research Fund
  • Proactively seek out methods to improve clarity and reliability of internal data relating to KPI’s and animal welfare deliverables
  • Support the Head of Animal Welfare and Animal Welfare Operations Manager with the development of content for social media, website, marketing promotions, presentations, and educational content for internal and external audiences as relevant and required
  • Keep abreast of relevant government, legislation, policy changes at the State and National levels and relevant changes internationally
  • Liaise with internal areas including Veterinary Services, Licensing and Registration, Racing, Marketing, Corporate Communications and Finance for the production of reports, and planning of equine and greyhound welfare activities

Qualifications

About You 

  • Tertiary qualification (BSc, BVMS or other) in animal welfare, animal science, or other relevant discipline desirable or equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience and training
  • Prior experience in a similar role desirable
  • Understanding of scientific research methods and practices and ability to obtain relevant sources to inform complex issues
  • Strong skills in data analysis including understanding of statistical concepts and the ability to inspect and analyse data and produce descriptive statistics
  • Ability to represent data graphically and extract relevant statistical features for presentation
  • Knowledge of or experience in the WA thoroughbred, harness, or greyhound racing industries to assist with organisational requirements.
  • Excellent level of competence in the preparation of written material including reports and good ability to communication concepts verbally
  • Computer literacy skills – Microsoft Office and Windows environment
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining a strong rapport with various stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion for confidential information and ability to maintain the integrity of the WA racing industry
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, with excellent personal organisation and ability to prioritise
