An incredible opportunity waits for an accomplished Animal Trainer-Presenter to join the Animal Experiences Team. We connect visitors with our animals and ignite a passion for wildlife and conservation through free-flight displays and up-close encounters.

Day to day responsibilities include communicating Auckland Zoo’s conservation messages in a fun and entertaining way, developing, and implementing animal training plans and maintaining high animal welfare standards by providing exemplary care. You will commit to ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for animals, staff, and zoo visitors.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will have excellent communication skills and experience with public presentations. Your passion for wildlife conservation will inspire the same enthusiasm in our visitors. The nature of this fast-paced high energy role will require you to be adaptable, quick-thinking, motivated and to work well with your team while having fun!

You will demonstrate the following skills/experience:

  • Proven ability working with trained animals to display natural behaviours using positive reinforcement.
  • Experience of training birds for free-flight displays would be an advantage.
  • Proven expertise in delivering animal encounters and displays for public audiences.
  • Active participation in team development through mutual sharing of skills and peer reviews.
  • A driver's licence recognised in New Zealand is essential.

The Animal Experiences team is a vital part of our zoo, playing an important part in ensuring visitors to Auckland Zoo not only have a memorable experience, but a connection with animals that leaves them wanting to make a positive impact on our environment and the conservation of species within New Zealand, and around the world.

This is a fixed term role until February 2023.  The role will work 40 hours per week, on a variable roster system, including most weekends and public holidays.

As part of the Auckland Council whānau, your work will help to enrich the lives of Aucklanders and will directly impact residents and visitors to our city. You will also have access to many partnership benefits and discounts including food and retail, and health services.
