Opportunity
Agilex Biolabs is seeking to recruit two weekend casual Animal Technicians to join the Toxicology Team at their Brisbane site in St Lucia. The successful candidates will be required to work rostered regular weekend shifts and also some occasional weekdays.
As one of our Animal Technicians you will be responsible for providing day-to-day animal care and husbandry, maintenance of the facility and assistance with routine procedures during the conduct of studies in rodents.
We are looking to fill these opportunities immediately so if you are personable, engaging, motivated and have a relevant Certificate or Diploma (or progressing towards completion) and/or minimum 2 years work experience with rodent husbandry, observations and drug administration (intravenous, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, gavage administration), then we want to hear from you now.
About you
- Completion (or progress towards completion) of a relevant Certificate or Diploma and/or minimum 2 years work experience with rodent husbandry, observations and drug administration (intravenous, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, gavage administration).
- Experience in performing routine animal technical procedures such as euthanasia and identification.
- Expert in small animal handling (rats and mice).
- Ability to perform standard laboratory tasks such as pipetting and weighing with a high degree of accuracy and work carefully to follow existing procedures accurately.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation of facility maintenance and experiments.
- Awareness of and adherence to standards of laboratory safety (such as biohazard and chemical safety.
- Detail oriented.
- Good computer skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, trust and reliability and the ability to work unsupervised, yet be part of a broader team.
- Intermediate MS office suite.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting the conduct of rodent studies, including animal cage preparation and changing, housing and environmental enrichment, hygiene control and provision of food and water.
- Data collection of rodent clinical observations, body weight and food intake using Provantis software
- Maintaining efficient facility operation in a PC2 environment including maintenance of equipment, operation of the cage washer, waste management, cleaning and general upkeep of the facility.
- Monitoring animal well-being and performing routine technical procedures such as animal observations and drug administration (eg. oral gavage and intraperitoneal injections).
- Support the application, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System and participate in internal and external quality audits, as required
- Working in compliance with facility quality requirements
- Other duties as directed by Line Manager or delegate.
